Dawn Elaine Bowie, Esq.

Dawn Elaine Bowie, Esq.

Dawn Elaine Bowie, Esq., practices law exclusively in Maryland.  She has the practical experience you need.  She worked for  family  law clients like you since before she became a lawyer in 2002.  Before that, she got the kind of experience that lawyers historically had to     have to be lawyers – practical experience.  From 1992 to 1998 she worked for small firms and solo attorneys as a paralegal.  Since 2002,         Ms. Bowie has handled hundreds of divorce and/or custody cases like yours.

Ms. Bowie graduated from Southern Adventist University (formerly, Southern Missionary College) near Chattanooga, Tennessee, with a B.A in Broadcast Communications in 1978.

From 1978 to 1994, when she received her second bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies from the University of Maryland University College, Ms. Bowie was a full-time mother, then a legal secretary. From 1994 to 1998, Ms. Bowie learned the nuts and bolts of legal practice as a paralegal for various small firms and sole practitioners in and around Rockville, Maryland.

In 1998, Ms. Bowie was awarded an M.A. in Administration from the University of Maryland University College.

In 2001, Ms. Bowie received her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Ms. Bowie was admitted to practice in Maryland in 2002 and has worked solely in family law since then.  She taught Family Law at the University of Maryland University College from 2001 to 2004.

Ms. Bowie has been published in Washington Woman (The Three P’s:  Adding Strength to the Marital Contract, 2005) and the Daily Record (Silent Suffering: Men as Victims of Domestic Violence, 2006).  In September 2010, she received the Innovator of the Year award from the Daily Record, a Maryland legal and business publication, for her work in offering unbundled legal services using Virtual Law Office technology.

From 2007 to 2010, Ms. Bowie was the author of two blogs, Maryland Fathers’ Rights and Maryland Divorce Law Blog.

In June 2011, Ms. Bowie was part of a presentation at the Maryland State Bar Association Annual Convention.  She participated in a panel discussion in support of unbundled legal services for the Family Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association.

Ms. Bowie loves the mountains of Western North Carolina and small-town living.  Her model of great lawyering is the character, Atticus Finch, from the novel, “To Kill A Mockingbird.”
