Alimony
Maryland has three kinds of alimony:
Temporary (or pendente lite) alimony;
Rehabilitative (or statutory) alimony; and
Indefinite alimony.
While Maryland’s courts are moving away from alimony awards, they do still consider them in many cases. The requirements for each kind of alimony are different and there are currently no guidelines to let divorcing couples know what to expect in how much might be awarded. There are also serious implications for a paying spouse when any kind of alimony is awarded by a court in an absolute divorce.
