Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence

We’d rather call it “family violence” but since the Google spiders haven’t learned that term yet, we’ll use the one they understand.

We know the problem of domestic violence isn’t just a women’s issue.  It’s a children’s issue and an elderly parent issue and it is even a men’s issue.

Families who suffer from violence in the home all need extra help, and we are experienced in providing it.  We’ve represented scores of victims of both genders and children whose parents have been violent.

What we’ve seen over time is that far too many domestic violence cases are a quick and easy way for one spouse to get rid of the other without the expense and time involved in a divorce or custody action.  If you are one of these folks, please find another lawyer.

We’ve also seen plenty of tragic situations where our clients were genuinely victimized but were too embarrassed or ashamed to ask the courts for help.  More and more often, we are learning that husbands and fathers fall into this category.

Then, there are the couples who are just plain mean to each other.  The experts call this twisted family dynamic, “mutual violence.”

Most tragic of all, though, are the men and women we’ve represented who make a brave step toward breaking the ugly cycle of family violence, only to be sucked back into their own nightmare.

If you need our help, whether because you are a victim of domestic violence who is committed to creating a life free of abuse, or if you have been falsely accused of domestic violence (and you’d better be able to prove it), contact us today.  We have the tools and experience you need to help you help yourself.

If you are in a situation where your safety, or that of your children or an elderly parent is threatened, call the police first, and then call us.  Let us know you have an emergency court appearance only after you ensure your own safety and that of your family.
